The financial year 2013 was primarily shaped by the identification and acquisition of new large-scale customers in the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) landscape. Heliocentris has focused its marketing and sales efforts to the Top 15 Mobile Operators from the Middle East as well as Africa and Southeast Asia to scale up the ICT business efficiently and sustainably. By redefining the entire process framework Heliocentris has not only boosted the organization's efficiency, but has also achieved the certification according to ISO 9001 and 14001 on group level and of all business processes in December 2013. Financial and operational overview of 2013: * Delays in awarding of contracts lead to a decline in turnover from TEUR 7,690 (2012) to TEUR 4,927 in 2013. * A further follow up order from key customer "du" in the United Arab Emirates reconfirms the sustainable partnership as well as the reliability and quality of Heliocentris solutions. * MoU signed for the implementation of Heliocentris' Energy Efficiency Solutions with one of the world's largest Mobile Network Operators from the Middle East. The revenue potential from this contract is around EUR 10 million. * OEM agreement with Cummins Power Generation, one of the world's leading diesel generator manufacturers was signed for the supply of energy management systems. From this partnership revenues in the mid double-digit million Euro range are expected over the next five years. * Consistent extension of solutions portfolio, Energy Manager 2.0 has reached mass production stage. Ayad Abul-Ella, CEO of Heliocentris AG comments: "2013 has been a challenging year for Heliocentris: Persistent delays in the awarding of contracts for important major projects in the industrial segment lead to a decline in turnover. On the other hand, however, none of the major projects acquired were awarded to any of our competitors or cancelled by the customer. Thus, considerable growth can be expected for 2014, as confirmed by the "BOS Brandenburg" project acquired in March 2014 and the major order from Myanmar awarded in April 2014." In 2013 Heliocentris had to report a decline in turnover from TEUR 7,690 (2012) to TEUR 4,927 (2013). The majority of this decline was due to the? fact that lead times with major customers from project identification till realization could not be enhanced. These delays, however, are not only caused by longer decision making processes but also caused by reallocation of budgets to the upgrade of mobile networks with new technologies such as LTE and 3G. Therefore, in 2013 the achieved turnover reached TEUR 2,443 (2012: TEUR 4,801). An improvement can be expected within 2014. The turnover has been supported from the Middle East Region with an amount of TEUR 2,029, which reflects the importance of this region and confirms it as a focus area. Other operating income / capitalized services were with EUR 2.7 million over the previous year (2012: EUR 2.2 million). Therein included, amongst others, are EUR 0.4 million of grants, EUR 0.3 million sale of Acta S.p.A securities, as well as EUR 1.7 million capitalized services. The annual loss of the Heliocentris group increased in 2013 to TEUR 12,339 compared to TEUR 7,663 in the previous year resulting from lower sales while expenses have increased. The operating expenses for the financial year rose by 31% to TEUR 16,077 compared to TEUR 12,301 in 2012. This increase is predominantly due to the rise of personnel costs. As the Executive Board is convinced of the expected growth, resources were not adjusted in line with the lower revenues of the preceding business year. Ayad Abul-Ella further explains: "In 2013, we expanded our solutions portfolio to improve our competitive advantages even further. The new generation of our Energy Management System was developed for series production after over two years of development work and fully met and even exceeded expectations in some cases in the course of field tests over the past few months with customers in Indonesia, Germany and the United Arab Emirates. The expansion of our offering to include managed power services has helped us get our foot in the door with leading mobile phone network operators in Africa. Our worldwide operating customers continuously confirm that we are leading in terms of performance and reliability. This feedback supports our expectations of significantly higher revenues." On the 31 December 2013 Heliocentris had cash and cash equivalents of TEUR 1,429 (31.12.2012: TEUR 2,074). The Annual Report will be published in English on 9th of May 2014.
